Beware of the Blob (factoids)

It's easy for someone watching the original version of The Blob to assume that the special effects were achieved using some sort of slimelike chemical that was quickly whipped up and thrown away after the movie finished filming. It'd also be natural to assume that slime had long since deteriorated into nothingness at a dump somewhere.

However, the truth is much stranger than fiction. The Blob was created using silicone, which was sealed up in a metal drum after filming ended. Eventually, an inquisitive fan of The Blob called up the studio and wound up purchasing the legendary prop. You can read more about it at this Horror-Wood interview.

As if that wasn't mind-blowing enough, did you that the Blob has a real-world counterpart of sorts? No, I'm not referring to amoebas; I'm referring to snottite. That's right, acidic slime actually exists. Who would've thunk it?
